Background of Institute
National Institute of Public Health Training and Research (NIPHTR) was established in June 1957 under Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It is one of the pioneering Central Training Institutes (C.T.I.) conducting in-service training for medical and paramedical personnel in important health issues to enhance their knowledge and skills for better delivery of health care services to attain Universal health Coverage and achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’S).
Launch of Skill Based Training Programme
NIPHTR develops its training activities keeping in pace with the changing scenario globally and at National level. As the directives of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, NIPHTR Mumbai has decided to conduct skill based training programmes including First responder course. The Skill based training courses are the training content developed for enhancing the specific skills of existing professionals or provide a platform for imparting skills to candidates.
Programme Overview
The Skill based training courses are developed for enhancing the specific skills of existing professionals and provide a platform for imparting skills to candidates with no formal qualification.
It is mandatory that the candidate must fulfill certain entry criteria to undertake the skill based training programme. The training and assessment will certify that the candidate is able to undertake specific set of activities. These must not be equated with the formal qualifications- diploma/ degrees which are awarded by the University.
First Responder is the first person on the incidence scene to recognize the emergency, activate an Emergency Medical Services system (EMS) and provide lifesaving first aid with minimal equipment until the Emergency Medical Services providers arrive.

Module-I - Introduction to First Responder programme.
Module-II Patient assessment
Module-III: Airway
Module-IV: Circulation
Module-V: Illness & Injury
Module - VI: EMS Operation
Faculty:
In-house expert faculty from Medical and Nursing field along with Guest faculty from Anaesthesia dept. of KEM Hospital and City Institute of Disaster Management.
Medium of instruction: English/Hindi/Marathi
Duration: 4 days
Eligibility criteria:
Minimum 8th Std. & above Student, Police, Industry employees, Security personnel, School teachers, Drivers etc. and mandatory for all Public Health professionals including ASHA workers/ Anganwadi / MPWs or relevant profession. Age: 18 years and above (Relaxation of age for SC/ST candidates as per Govt. of India rules
Attendance:
A candidate has to secure 100%attendance in overall. No relaxation, whatsoever, will be permissible to this rule under any condition including indisposition etc.
