Sanitary Health Inspector Course

Introduction

Public Health is an important matter of concern for the municipal bodies in various states. Sanitary Health Inspectors play a crucial role in the protection of Public Health and Environment in various ways. Their demand is increasing with the changes in the Public Health sector. Civic bodies in a state depend on Health and Sanitary Inspectors for dealing with various public issues which range from safe drinking water, safety of food and general sanitary conditions.

Training Outcomes

As per the directives of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, NIPHTR Mumbai started the one-year skill-based course for Sanitary Health Inspector in the year 2017.

The Sanitary Health Inspectors program aims to equip trainees with the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure public Health, environmental health and safety in various settings.

Course objectives

  • To develop skilled sanitary health inspectors who can identify and mitigate environmental health hazards.
  • To enhance knowledge and skills in areas like waste management, water quality, and food safety.
  • To understand communicable diseases and their prevention
  • To develop skills to conduct visits to various establishments for assessment of cleanliness and hygienic practices and ensure the desirable standards are maintained.
  • Should be able to survey housing colonies to assess sanitary standards and prescribe corrective measures.
  • Should have knowledge of food safety and the ability to apply it to establishments such as restaurants, Hostels & Eateries.
  • To promote a culture of health and safety in communities.

Scope of work

The course aims to impart technical training supplemented by practical training to candidates aspiring to join Health and Sanitation departments of Municipal Bodies, District Councils, Railways, Five-Star Hotels, Food and Drugs Administration, Airports or similar services in other organizations.

To deal with Health and Sanitation problems, including preventive health, family welfare, environmental conditions etc.

Trained in the Health and sanitation, they implement evidence-based public health practice across a number of establishments such as hospitals, hotels and industries such as pollution control authorities, food and water safety and travel (airports, seaports and railways), and NGOs.

Eligible Criteria - Candidate must have completed 10+2 with science.

Age limit - 18 to 30 years. (Relaxation of age for SC/ST candidates as per the Govt. of India Rules.)

Affiliation – Government of India recognised.

Duration of course - One Academic year (June to May)

ADMISSION PROCESS

NIPHTR, Mumbai gives the admission notification on website and Newspapers to invite the applications for admission to the Sanitary Health Inspector every year in the month of February and Application accepted till mid-April.

Entrance Examination conducted with portions from 12th Science & Maths. Students are selected as per the scores obtained in the examination & 12th results. Reservation Rules followed as per the Govt norms.

Modality of Conduction

  • It is a one-year full time course with Theory & Hand on experience given during the training.
  • The one-year programme is conducted as Two semesters with three theory papers with Practical & Viva in each semester.
  • Students are placed for a 10 weeks internship programme during the second semester in various municipal corporations.
